Karen Rapheal is the team member of the month for June 2007.
Karen, a Mauritian by birth, has been working at the Club Mistral in Mauritius for more than two years now.
Karen was working as an apprentice waitress in the Indian Resort Hotel, but when she discovered the Club Mistral centre in front of the Hotel she immediately begged Felix the centre Manager for a job. Initially Felix held back – she was only 17 and knew nothing about windsurfing! However it wasn’t long before Karen persuaded Felix through her enthusiasm, tenacity and desire.
Everyday she would come by the centre in high spirits to assure Felix that she was interested in the travel service job, and to let him know she was available to start immediately. Eventually Felix let himself be persuaded. A decision he hasn’t regretted. Karen is popular with both the team and guests, always in a contagiously good mood and with a charming smile. Fluent in a few languages, Karen is also very reliable.
As Karen has begun to learn German, is the youngest in the team and loves to telephone she has been given the nickname “das Huhn” translated as the chicken.
Her true love is her phone – constantly ringing and keeping her up to date on the islands gossip.
Karen is always the centre of any party and is usually the last to go home. Her affectionate and open personality is a hit with the blonde Kite surfers who frequent Mauritius to train and of course see Karen.
Another of Karen’s interests is music. Karen is a fantastic and enthusiastic dancer, who knows how to create a great party atmosphere and get everyone involved.
Karen is enthusiastically learning to Kitesurf and surf, and has recently been studiously learning to Windsurf.
Karen is a very determined person, and she recently fulfilled her biggest dream by travelling to Europe. Karen saved up quite a sum of earnings and started her year with a month long visit to Europe. She came by our Head office in Weilheim to pay us a visit and finished with a trip to France. She had a great time but willingly returned to her dream island of Mauritius.
Karen, you enrich all our lives and we hope that you and your bright and cheerful nature will remain with us for a long time to come.
