Team Member of the Month for May 2009 is Svenja Schoke.
Svenja is originally from Hannover, and came to Bavaria for her studies, where she still lives today.
Svenja studied Geography and Tourism in Munich, but she did not want to live there and so decided to choose a nice place called Garmisch about a 1 hour drive away from Munich. We asked ourselves why, since Munich is such a great place to live. The answer is simple - she wanted to be close to the mountains and the nature because of her hobby snowboarding! She’s pretty good at it too, and during her studies she earned extra money by teaching snowboarding. She also did work experience at Travel People between the 23rd of February and 16th of July 2004, which is when we first got to meet her.
After she finished her studies in Munich Svenja went to California for 1 year to work there. She loved California and Los Angeles, which is no surprise considering the nice climate there! It was here that her English became fluent - although with a bit of an American accent here and there! She became a huge fan of the USA and hoped to stay there, but unfortunately it didn’t work out with the Green Card and she had to return to Germany.
She decided to return to Garmisch to live there and Travel People hired her to work in the office in Weilheim from July 2007 onwards.
Svenja helped to establish Fanatic the Boarders Center (FBC) and she is also Product Manager and takes care of calculations and the brochure. In addition to that she is also responsible for the website for Travel People and handles the press work. Svenja is very reliable and a very precise worker. She is super organized, both at work as well as in her private life. In December of each year she has already made her holiday plan for the coming year – but this comes from her love of travel more perhaps! Every long weekend she uses the time to travel somewhere nice and see something new.
She still travels several times a year to the USA, which pleases some of her colleagues as she brings back nice clothes such as sportswear and electronics for very good prices!
Svenja is always straight forward, honest and un-complicated, and she expresses her opinions openly so that everybody knows where she stands. Her colleagues are used to her directness and respect her for it.
It is a lot of fun to party with Svenja, and on our company ski-excursion last year this was on show for all to see. Svenja knew word for word every (bad) hit at the Apres Ski bar, and we really had a lot of fun singing and dancing…..
Svenja you enrich our team, and we hope you will stay with the Club Mistral family for much longer.
